Things you should know about Power Shift Ohio!

To volunteer for pre-conference outreach at your school, or to volunteer at the conference, please email Tim Krueger (tim@energyjustice.net).  If you get 5 of your friends to register, we’ll reimburse your registration fee!

The cost of registration is still $20!  For information about scholarships or group discounts, email Tim (tim@energyjustice.net).

Housing will be provided as part of the conference…. don’t fret!  We’ll even house you with your friends.  You’re advised to bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

Food on Saturday and Sunday is covered in the conference fee.  A team of Power Shift Chefs will prepare local, slow foods, gourmet meals for us all weekend.  It’ll be awesome.

Transportation to and from the conference is being organized on a school-by-school and city-by-city basis.  Buses are definitely running from Athens, Columbus, and the Oxford/Cinci area…. so hurry up and register to reserve your spot on a bus!  You should also contact a Power Shift organizer at your school to get in on the carpooling.  If you’re not sure who your school’s organizer is, ask Scott Siebel (scsiebel@gmail.com).

If you are press, you can register at a different rate.  You’ll need to email Max (blaushmw@muohio.edu).

Finally, the following is a list of non-legitimate reasons to miss Power Shift Ohio:

1. You’re not a college student.  We still love you!  Power Shift Ohio will be full of nonprofit workers, activists, unionists, elected officials, high school students, and professors.
2. Conferences are all talk.  Under normal circumstances, you may be right…. but not here.  On Saturday afternoon, the entire conference is breaking up into 5 issue-based sub-groups to devise 6-12 month campaign plans.  The 5 campaigns will focus on Environmental Justice, Green Jobs, Clean and Dirty Energy, Community Planning, and Climate Legislation.  The entire summit will then vote on which campaign plan is the strongest.  All 5 campaigns will receive funding, with the winning campaign receiving additional funding.
3. There are better Summits to go to.  Wrong! Power Shift Ohio will be the largest and most important gathering of environmental activists ever to have taken place in Ohio.  It will be socially unacceptable not to be there.
4. Conferences like this are planned by Washington Insiders and men with black suits and bad hair.  Their agenda doesn’t represent me.  Again, nope.  Power Shift Ohio belongs to college students and environmental activists in Ohio.  This conference represents our values, and we’ve invited speakers that we think are doing the most valuable work in our state.  We don’t even own black suits.
5. You don’t live in Ohio.  Whatever dude, get over yourself and come to the summit!
